Why you should consider a solar PV installation
There’s more to solar energy than just its green credentials – although doing your bit to help the environment is an important consideration for many.
In April 2010, the Government introduced a Feed-in Tariff solar energy scheme guaranteeing a minimum payment for all electricity generated by solar PV over a 25 year period. Or, in other words, a solar PV system will:
- Cut your energy bills through use of your own energy
- Give you protection against rising energy costs
- Give you a guaranteed inflation-linked income (a better long-term investment opportunity than many other traditional options on the current market) and tax-free for domestic users
- Significantly reduce your carbon footprint
Is your property suitable?
Solar PV systems convert natural daylight into electricity. Unlike solar thermal panels which are used to heat hot water, PV systems do not, therefore, require heat from the sun. And the good news is that here in the South West we live in one of the best areas for maximum daylight hours maximising the potential yield.
As you probably know, the pitch and direction of your roof will have an impact on your ability to produce solar energy. However, although a south-facing roof is undeniably best, properties with east or west-facing roofs are also capable of generating electricity form solar PV panels.

- Agree a time for installation that is most convenient for you (an average installation takes 2 to 3 days)
- Arrange scaffolding
- Supply, install and test all of the equipment
- Notify your local network operator
- Provide all necessary warranties and certificates required for you to receive the feed-in tariff
